PORT JEFFERSON – GO GREEN
Just as LISEC was in the forefront of building Harborfront Park, the Port Jefferson Village Center, and the Bayles Boat Shop, it is now a founder and strong proponent of the Port Jefferson Go-Green initiative.
For the last three years, LISEC has partnered with the Village and the Humanities Institute of Stony Brook University in the Go-Green Initiative.  On Saturday, November 6, the Village Center will host our Third Annual Symposium with accent on "Youth Leading the Way,"    We join forces with the NY State Youth Council that was founded in Port Jefferson by local high school students.  This symposium will focus on bringing re-cycling to the Village Business District, the creation of water gardens around the downspouts of public and private buildings, and setting a no-idling policy for school buses, thus eliminating the carcinogenic fumes that  children breathe while waiting.

Port Jefferson owes a big debt of gratitude to the Humanities Institute of Stony Brook University and the Town of Brookhaven Department of Waste Management for their inspiration and support. For a great deal of information do visit: www.howgreenismytown.org, a website created by Doug and Patty Woods of Port Washington. www.grassrootsinfo.org is a good link to follow.
