PORT JEFFERSON – GO GREEN
Just as LISEC was in the forefront of building Harborfront Park, the Port Jefferson Village Center, and the Bayles Boat Shop, it is now a founder and strong proponent of the Port Jefferson Go-Green initiative.
A major effort is to encourage recycling in the business district as well in local schools and hospitals. A well attended symposium in November 2008 provided information and brought attention to this need. In 2009 ‘Go-Green’ is focusing on chemicals in and outside our homes. A major Port Jefferson Go-Green Street Fest is becoming an annual event.
Port Jefferson owes a big debt of gratitude to the Humanities Institute of Stony Brook University and the Town of Brookhaven Department of Waste Management for their inspiration and support.
