LISEC - Bayles Boat Shop

THE PLAN FOR THE BAYLES BOAT SHED
The development of the Bayles Boat shed will enable LISEC to expand its maritime heritage and environmental education programs

The project is well underway and we poured our foundation and are eagerly waiting the raising. The traditional post and beam framing will be erected between October 12th - 22nd with the help of the Timber Framers Guild of Becket, Massachusetts. [ www.tfguild.org ]

RECENT DEVELOPMENTS
On August 30, 2006 we began pouring the foundation, which should be finished on Tuesday Sept. 6, 2006. We will then waterproof the foundation and backfill in preparation for the Timber Framing Workshop in October. The timber Framming workshop was a great success with the frame being built, and raised. For more information on this please click here.
Once the frame was complete the next step was to install the SIPP’s pannels that make up the wall’s and roof. We have since shingled the building, and Wrapped the outside of the building in preperation for siding, and windows. Which are our next projects.
THE BUILDING
The Bayles Boat Shed will measure 23 ft. x 48 ft. x 26 ft. high and will be built with traditional wood structural framed elements. It will contain the main shop floor and a high center bay that opens to a centered clerestory and the two storage lofts. It will include operable wood windows with wood muntins. The boat shed will have custom-built wood doors, including 1) sliding barn doors on overhead track 10 ft. high x 12 ft. wide, and 2) Dutch doors 7 ft. high x 3.5 ft. wide.

The boat shed will incorporate a 12 on 12 red pitched roof. The front porch, designed for public interface and query, will be supported by oak timber posts. Continuous steps will allow casual seating in the shade and shelter from the rain. The dutch doors on the porch will allow the public to observe shop activity and smell freshly cut wood.
